Blazers Top Georgia Southern via Tiebreaker at NCAA Qualifiers

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB rifle team overcame Georgia Southern at NCAA Qualifiers in Statesboro, Ga. on Saturday morning. After the Blazers and Eagles tied, 4574-4574, the Green and Gold took the tiebreaker, 220-217.
"I am very proud of our team's finish today as they won the tiebreaker over Georgia Southern," head coach Lori Goodwin said. "It shows the commitment and will to win that they all have."
Amy Kohan shot 576 in smallbore and 584 in air rifle for an aggregate total of 1160 to lead all student-athletes. Her scores in each discipline paced UAB. Zoe Lum finished fifth overall with an aggregate score of 1141 and completed the match in second in smallbore (569) and ninth in air rifle (572).
Sophia Flores (565 smallbore, 573 air, 1138 aggregate) placed sixth overall, while Maggie Vonderau slotted at seventh, shooting 562 in smallbore and 573 in air rifle for an aggregate total of 1135 and wrapping up Blazers in the top-10.

UAB's 4574 will be averaged with its scores from The Citadel (4599), Murray State (4596) and UT-Martin (4580) for its complete qualifier score. The Blazers currently sit at No. 12 nationally.
The Green and Gold returns to the range March 6-7 for the Southern Conference Championships, where it looks to defend its back-to-back league titles.
