UAB Rifle Places Third at Southern Conference Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – The 18th-ranked UAB rifle team finished the 2021 Southern Conference Championships in third place overall, having its two-year conference title streak broken by North Georgia.
UAB earned Southern Conference bronze with an aggregate score of 4573, while the Nighthawks claimed the conference title (4600) and Georgia Southern finished in second place (4596).
Amy Kohan placed second overall in aggregate score, as well as smallbore and air rifle. The sophomore from Arlington, Va. posted an overall 1162, while also shooting 574 in smallbore and 588 in air rifle.
Zoe Lum finished just outside the top-10 at 11th in smallbore (564), while fellow Blazer Sophia Flores also placed in the top-15 at 14th in smallbore (561). Flores shot a 579 in air rifle, placing 11th, while Maggie Vonderau and Jordan Blankenship both posted an air rifle score of 576 (T-12th).
UAB brought home seven all-conference awards for the 2020-21 season as well. Kohan was named First-Team All-Southern Conference for both smallbore and air rifle, while Lum appeared on the smallbore first-team and the air rifle second-team.
Blankenship, Flores and Vonderau were all named to the All-Southern Conference Smallbore Second Team.
