Blazers Top Monarchs 74-61

NORFOLK, Va. – Behind a career-high 21 rebound and 27-point double-double from Zakyia Weathersby, the UAB women's basketball team defeated Old Dominion on the road 74-61.
Weathersby shot 12-of-15 from the field and contributed four blocks in the victory. Her double-double was her eleventh of the season and twelfth of her career.
Freshman Lindsey Dullard scored a career-high 18 points, hitting four three-point baskets in the second half and adding four assists.
Caitlynn Daniels was the third Blazer who scored in double-digits in the game, racking up 10 points to go with nine assists and three steals, both career-highs for the freshman.
As a team, UAB shot 48.3% (28-of-58) from the field and went 43.5% (10-of-23) from behind the arc.
After shooting 28.6% in the first quarter, going into the second down 16-11, the Blazers (8-11, 3-10 C-USA) got into a groove, outscoring the Monarchs (6-9, 3-8 C-USA) 21-16 in the frame.
The Blazers and Old Dominion went in the half tied 32-32.
UAB exploded offensively in the second half, shooting a combined 56% (14-of-25) from the field and 61.5% (8-of-13) from behind the arc.
Dullard dominated the second half with a team-high fourteen points, while freshman Maddie Walsh and Weathersby each had nine points.
"Old Dominion has a great team and are very well coached," coach Randy Norton said. "I'm proud of the way we battled on both ends of the court."
UAB will go for the series sweep over Old Dominion tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Chartway Arena. The game will be streamed on C.USA TV.
