BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team fell to Louisiana Tech 83-61 in Bartow Arena on Saturday afternoon, completing their two-game series with the Lady Techsters.

Three Blazers scored in double digits in the loss.

Margaret Whitley led UAB with 23 points, hitting seven 3-pointers, matching a season-high for the junior guard behind the arc.

"Even with the tough loss, I felt confident in my shot today," Whitley said. "I had some fuel added to my fire after yesterday's game. I told myself I needed to be more confident and knock shots down."

Sophomore Sam Mitchell scored 11 points off the bench and matched junior LaMiracle Sims with a team-high three assists.

Senior Zakyia Weathersby collected a game-high 10 boards, missing a double-double by two points.

UAB (7-11, 2-10 C-USA) had a slow offensive first half, with the Lady Techsters (13-7, 8-6 C-USA) outscoring UAB 46-30. The Blazers got 18 of their 30 points from the 3-point line, with Whitley hitting three before the break.

The Blazers started to get hot in the third quarter, outscoring LA Tech 21-14 behind 53.3% shooting. UAB went into the fourth down 61-50, cutting its deficit to single digits.

The Lady Techsters opened the fourth quarter on an 8-2 run, going up 67-53.

Freshman Kylee Schneringer gave the Blazers some momentum with a three-point play to halt LA Tech's run, but UAB was only able to score another five points in the quarter after the play.

The Lady Techsters scored 21 to UAB's 10 in the frame.

As a team, the Blazers shot 40.7% (22-of-54) from the field, 40% (10-of-25) from behind the arc and 7-of-9 from the line.

The Blazers will be on the road next weekend when they travel to Norfolk, Va., for a conference series with Old Dominion on Feb. 19-20.
