Nine Blazers Earn Top-Five Finishes at Samford Invitational

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB track and field team had a strong showing at the Samford Invitational on Friday.
"We had a good day today," head coach Kurt Thomas said. "We had tons of personal records, season bests, a school record and lots of top 10 and top-five finishes."
Freshman Birthe Franck-Petersen started out the day breaking her own school record in the shot put with a mark of 12.86 meters to place seventh.
In the long jump, Brittany Floyd paced the way UAB with a second-place finish with a mark of 5.87 meters to also place fifth in indoor school history. Freshman Kaylie Wright had a fourth-place finish with a mark of 5.60 meters.
"Brittany Floyd had another outstanding day setting personal records in the long jump and hurdles," added Thomas.
Over in the 60 meter hurdles, Makiyah Sills finished with a personal-best time of 8.63 to finish second. Floyd placed fifth with a time of 8.88. Ashleigh Ivory added a eighth-place finish with a time of 9.01.
Karri Green placed third in the 400 meters, completing the race in 57.11. Green's time places her in 10th in indoor school history.
The day ended with the 4x400 meter relay team taking the win with a time of 3:47.96. The time places them eighth in all-time indoor school history.
UAB will be back at the Birmingham CrossPlex tomorrow for the Samford Open. Live results can be found by clicking here.
Following the Samford Open, UAB will host the Conference USA Indoor Championship Feb. 20 and 21 at the CrossPlex. Meet information can be found by clicking here. The CrossPlex will not accommodate fans during the Conference USA Championship.
