Three Blazers Win Events at BSC Icebreaker Meet

BIRMINGHAM- The UAB track and field team had a successful outing today at the BSC Ice Breaker Indoor Meet. As a team, the Blazers won three events, had six top three finishes, and 12 top eight finishes.

"We had a pretty good opening meet." Said Coach Kurt Thomas. "These early season meets, you want to get some event work in, see how athletes execute, practice some parts of events and break the competitive ice before the end of the semester and leaving for holiday break. We accomplished those things today."

Anna Massa won the pole vault with a 4.00m jump, Kat Duren won the 60m hurdles, and Kaylie Wright won the long jump with a 5.64m jump.

"Makiyah Sills and Kat had a busy and successful day, running three rounds of the 60m and 60m hurdles, going 1-2 in the hurdles." Coach Thomas said. "Lisa Petkov had big PRs in the 60 hurdles along with Maegan Edwards. Kaylie Wright jumped well to win the long jump. Nia Hill had an outstanding high jump with a big PR, and Anna Massa won the pole vault and took good attempts at our school record. The other vaulters all jumped well today. Zoria Miller had a good PR in the shot out and the other throwers threw well. All in all, we're very pleased."

UAB will compete next in 2022, in the UAB Blazer Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex, on January 14.
