UAB Hosts Charlotte for Senior Night

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's soccer team will play its final contest of the 2021 season when the Blazers host Charlotte for Senior Night at BBVA Field. Kickoff for Saturday's match at BBVA Field is set for 7 p.m.
After earning a point on the road at Old Dominion on Sunday, the Blazers will look to end their season with a victory over the 9-5 Charlotte 49ers. Charlotte is coming off a 2-1 victory over No. 5 Kentucky, scoring a golden goal in overtime to hand the Wildcats their first loss of the year.
UAB's match against Charlotte will stream live on CUSA.tv. Fans will also be able to follow this weekend's matchup via live stats.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers earned a scoreless draw at Old Dominion on Sunday to post their first clean sheet of the season. Blazer goalkeeper Seth Torman made seven saves in net to help preserve the clean sheet. UAB's back line withstood eight shots on frame over 110 minutes to head back to Birmingham with a point in the C-USA standings.
UAB fired three of its 13 shots in the first half, including an attempt from Zak Mohamed in the 40th minute. Mohamed paced the Blazers with two shots on goal in Sunday's match.
On the season, St. Louis paces the Blazers with five goals, 11 points, 26 shots and 16 shots on goal. Junior Teodor Thorvaldsen leads the Green and Gold with four assists.
Torman ranks first among UAB goalkeepers with 50 saves and 10 matches started in net.
HONORING OUR SENIORS
Before Saturday's game against Charlotte, UAB will honor its five seniors who will play their final game in Green and Gold on Saturday night – Seth Torman, Joseph Buete, Brandon Core, Mason Robicheaux and Brooks Stockley.
The group of five Blazers has combined to play in 200 matches and has made 102 starts during their collective time in Green and Gold.
THE SERIES VS. CHARLOTTE
Charlotte holds a 23-9-5 advantage in the all-time series between the Blazers and 49ers. UAB, however, holds a 5-4-3 record against Charlotte in Birmingham. The 49ers have dominated the recent history in the series, holding a 9-0-1 record against UAB with the Blazers' last win in the series coming back in 2010.
SCOUTING CHARLOTTE
Charlotte, who just earned a victory over No. 5 Kentucky on the 49ers' Senior Night, holds a 9-5 record this season. The 49ers have tallied multiple goals scored in nine of their 14 matches this season, posting three or more goals six times.
Charlotte holds a 4-3 record in C-USA action with its only losses coming to No. 1 Marshall, No. 19 FIU and Coastal Carolina.
Redshirt senior Joe Brito leads the 49ers with nine assists and 19 points. Fellow senior Preston Popp paces Charlotte with seven goals, three of which have been game-winning strikes. In net, redshirt senior Daniel Kuzemka has started all 14 matches for Charlotte in 2021, making 51 saves and posting two shutouts.

The two programs share seven commons opponents this season, all of which come in Conference USA play.
