UAB Rifle Concludes Fall Campaign Sunday at Jacksonville State

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB rifle team will conclude the fall portion of its 2021-22 season when the Blazers travel to Jacksonville State on Sunday.
The Blazers will send a season-high nine student-athletes to this weekend's competition – Jordan Blankenship, Sophia Flores, Taylor Jones, Amy Kohan, Tommy Loring, Claire Vonderau, Maggie Vonderau, Hallie Willis and Blake Wingard.
UAB earned its second straight first-place finish in this past weekend's match at VMI, posting an aggregate score of 4,562. Maggie Vonderau, Flores and Kohan swept the top three individual marks for the Blazers, recording scores of 1,148, 1,142 and 1,140, respectively.
The Green and Gold's score of 2,253 in the smallbore was a season high, outscoring VMI by 36 and the VMI women's team by 45. The Blazers also recorded a score of 2,309 in the air rifle, which was also a season best.
Jacksonville State is coming off a win over Georgia Southern on Saturday, defeating the Eagles by 61 points with an aggregate score of 4,666. Freshman Angus Babcock led the Gamecocks with an aggregate mark of 1,167, finishing second in the overall standings.
Following Sunday's match, UAB will hit the range again in 2022. The Blazers will open their spring schedule at Murray State on Jan. 21.
