UAB Softball Signs Five New Players

BIRMINGHAM- UAB softball has signed five players to the 2022 Blazer softball team.
This signing class features talented athletes, and versatile players that can excel in different spots on the field. Allyson Smith, Carlie Wilkins, Hannah Miles, McKayla Betts, and Caitlin Russell make up the 2022 UAB Softball signing class.
Head Coach Joe Guthrie said, "This was a smaller class, but we feel very satisfied with the players we've recruited. Our biggest needs were pitching, defense, speed, tools, and hitting, we feel like we filled those needs. This class has a lot of talented players that can play a lot of different spots for us."
ALLYSON SMITH | CATCHER | BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY | GREENWOOD
Smith will arrive in Birmingham from Bowling Green, Kentucky. She is a talented catcher, who also played 3rd base.
Coach Guthrie said, "Allyson is a great catch and throw defender, and she already has connections to some players on our team."
CARLIE WILKINS | PITCHER | CULLMAN, AL | WEST POINT
Carlie Wilkins comes to UAB Softball after a strong career at West Point. She already has connections to UAB Softball, and the coaching staff, including Courtnay Foster.
"Carlie is another great athlete we are really excited about." Said Coach Guthrie. "She's a homegrown talent, she also hits and plays first base really well."
MCKAYLA BETTS | UTILITY | GREENBRIER, AR | GREENBRIER HS
Betts will arrive in Birmingham by way of Greenbrier Arkansas. She is a gifted athlete who also played basketball.
Coach Guthrie said, "McKayla is another versatile player, who had a really good travel ball and high school career. She can play any infield position, and she is also really fast."
HANNAH MILES | OUTFIELDER | TUSCALOOSA, AL | AMERICAN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
Hannah Miles joins the Blazers after a decorated career at ACA in Tuscaloosa. The 5'4 outfielder is athletic, hits well, and is Coach Guthrie's first recruit from Tuscaloosa. At ACA, she also played volleyball.
Coach Guthrie said, "Hannah comes from a great family, and is a player we were very happy to get."
CAITLIN RUSSELL | UTILITY | MONTGOMERY, AL | LAMP HS
Russell comes to UAB from LAMP High School and can play anywhere on the field.
Coach Guthrie said, "Caitlin is a very versatile player who can play any position, she can also pitch. She was a star player at LAMP and also has really strong academics."
