UAB Volleyball Adds Four New Members On National Signing Day

BIRMINGHAM- UAB Volleyball has announced four new team members on National Signing Day.
Coach Betsy Freeburg said, "We look forward to welcoming this class to UAB. Each one of them brings unique gifts, both physically and intangibly, to our team that will help us continue to grow into a championship caliber program. We cannot wait to get them to Birmingham and into a Blazer uniform."
IZABELLA CARTER | SETTER | LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY
The future Blazer comes to Birmingham from Bryan Station High School, where she was a captain for every season she played and was named to the 42nd District All-Tournament Team in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021. Carter was named to the All Region Team in 2021, named 1st Team All City in 2020, and 2021. In 2021, Carter helped Bryan Station win a 42nd District Championship.
"Izzy comes from premiere club and has set at a high level for a long time." Said Coach Betsy Freeburg. "While quiet in demeanor, she is a tough athlete who make plays. She is coming off a championship high school season, and we are looking forward to her bringing her composure and poise to the setting position."
Izabella will be majoring in Biology at UAB and hopes to go skydiving one day.
KELSEY SMITH | SETTER | ARCADIA, INDIANA
Kelsey Smith comes to Birmingham from Hamilton Heights High School, where she was named to the All-County Team all four years, and was named to the All-Conference Team her sophomore, junior, and senior years.
Coach Betsy Freeburg said, "Kelsey is an exciting athlete who could play multiple positions here at UAB. She is a physical blocker and attacker, and she has beautiful hands for setting. One of our favorite things about Kelsey is that she is a fierce competitor who still has her best volleyball ahead of her."
Kelsey will major in Health Care Management when she arrives at UAB and loves to sing and dance.
HAVEN HALL | OUTSIDE HITTER | GERALDINE, ALABAMA | WALLACE STATE CC
Haven Hall will arrive at UAB after a highly successful last two seasons at Wallace State Community College. At Geraldine High School, Hall was named County MVP in 2018 and 2019, a Region Champion in 2019, named to the All-Region Team in 2019, and the All-Tournament Team as well in 2019. At Wallace State, Hall was named to the ACCC All-Tournament in 2020 and 2021, as well as the All-ACCC Volleyball Team. Haven was honored as Conference MVP in 2021, and her Wallace State Lions were conference champs in 2020 and 2021.
"Haven comes to us after a storied career at Wallace State, where she was most recently named the Alabama Community College Conference Tournament MVP." Said Coach Betsy Freeburg. "She is used to being a part of winning culture and competing for conference championships, and we are excited to add her leadership, character and work ethic to our gym and locker room."
Haven will major in Psychology at UAB.
JILLIAN VICKERS | OUTSIDE HITTER | ATHENS, AL | ATHENS HIGH SCHOOL
Vickers comes to UAB after a decorated career at Athens High. She was named to the AHSVCA 2020 All-State Second Team, and the 2021 All-State First Team. She was the Max Preps/AVCA Player of the Week (August 16-22) and one of the Al.com Top 25 Seniors in Alabama.
Coach Betsy Freeburg said, "We had the chance to work with Jillian at multiple camps this summer, and it was evident how invested she was in her own development. That drive, combined with her physical frame, makes her a player that we were immediately interested in learning more about. The more we got to know her, the more apparent it became that she loves UAB and loves volleyball, and that combination will lead to her success as a Blazer."
When she arrives at UAB, Jillian will major in Biomedical Sciences.
