UAB Rifle Team Heads to Wofford for Weekend Match

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB rifle team will continue its 2021-22 season on Saturday when the Blazers travel to Wofford. Saturday morning's match against the Terriers will begin at 8 a.m.
The Blazers will send six student-athletes to this weekend's competition – seniors Sophia Flores, Jordan Blankenship and Blake Wingard and juniors Tommy Loring, Amy Kohan and Maggie Vonderau. Wingard, a senior from Pawnee, Alabama, will be making his first appearance for the Green and Gold this season on Saturday.
Flores paced the Blazers with a sixth-place overall finish with an aggregate score of 1,139 in UAB's most recent matchup against Georgia Southern. Flores tallied the Blazers' top marks in the smallbore and air rifle, finishing fourth in the air rifle with a score of 578 and seventh in the smallbore with a tally of 561.
Kohan finished just one spot behind Flores with an aggregate score of 1,138, placing eighth in the smallbore (568) and fifth in the air rifle (577). Vonderau rounded out UAB's top three individual finishers with an eighth-place aggregate score of 1,135.
Wofford (0-1) has played in only one match this season, falling 4,555-3,210 to North Georgia on Oct. 23. The Terriers only had three competing shooters in this past Saturday's match with Isabella Timmons topping Wofford with an aggregate score of 1,115.
The Terriers finished seventh out of eight teams at the 2020-21 Southern Conference Championships in March. UAB topped Wofford by a 100 or more points in both the smallbore and air rifle in the competition.
Following Saturday's match, UAB will travel to Lexington, Virginia, for a match at VMI.
