BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's soccer team will continue its stretch of six straight Conference USA matches to conclude the regular season with a road matchup at Coastal Carolina on Tuesday night. Kickoff in Conway, South Carolina, is set for 6 p.m. CT.
After a 3-1 setback to Florida Atlantic on Sunday, the Blazers will look to move to 3-2 on the road this season with a contest against the Chanticleers.
UAB's match at Coastal Carolina will stream live on ESPN+. Fans will also be able to follow Tuesday's matchup via live stats.
LAST TIME OUT
UAB opened the scoring in Saturday's match with a goal from senior Brooks Rice. Rice, who ranks second on the team with four goals scored this season, netted a solo effort after getting a ball played to him early down the right flank. Rice was able to evade a few FAU defenders before slotting home a right-footed shot past the keeper to make it 1-0 Blazers in the 22nd minute.
The Owls, however, quickly responded with an equalizer just 10 seconds after the ensuing kickoff. A long ball played in shortly after kicking off found its way to FAU's Pontus Steffensen, who buried the ball into the left corner to tie the match in the 23rd minute.
UAB held a 9-5 advantage in shots at halftime and a 4-0 edge in corner kicks, but a second-half surge from the Owls lifted Florida Atlantic to its seventh win of the season. Ivan Mykhailenko tallied the go-ahead goal in the 55th minute before Filip Jauk extended the visitor's lead to 3-1 with a goal from the penalty spot 20 minutes later.
Senior Mason Robicheaux hit the woodwork twice in Saturday's setback, having his first attempt saved up onto the cross bar before once again striking the post in the 80th minute.
Rice and senior Nathaniel St. Louis tied for the team lead in shots with three apiece.
On the season, St. Louis paces the Blazers with five goals, 11 points, 23 shots and 16 shots on goal. Junior Teodor Thorvaldsen tops the Green and Gold with four assists, while goalkeeper Seth Torman leads UAB with 38 saves and eight starts in net this season.
