UAB Rifle Team Opens 2021-22 Season at The Citadel on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB rifle team, winners of two of the past three Southern Conference Championships, opens their 2021-22 season at The Citadel on Saturday at 8 a.m. CST.
"I am excited to see our team compete in its first match this season," head coach Lori Goodwin said. "We have been busy preparing for this 2021-22 schedule, and I'm confident that we will be ready for what Saturday morning throws at us."
The Blazers will send seven student-athletes to this weekend's competition in Charleston, South Carolina. Seniors Sophia Flores and Jordan Blankenship, juniors Tommy Loring, Amy Kohan, and Maggie Vonderau, and sophomores Claire Vonderau and Taylor Jones will travel for the Green and Gold.
Kohan, an Arlington, Virginia native, earned First Team All-SoCon honors for both the smallbore and air rifle this past season. Lum also recorded First Team All-SoCon honors for smallbore and Second Team accolades for air rifle.
Blankenship, Flores and Maggie Vonderau all earned Second Team All-SoCon honors for smallbore in 2020-21.
UAB placed one spot higher than The Citadel in this past season's Southern Conference Championships. The Blazers sported an aggregate score of 4,573 for a third-place finish, while The Citadel ranked fourth with a score of 4,568.
Following Saturday's match, the Blazers will travel to Statesboro, Georgia, for a match at Georgia Southern on Oct. 16.
