UAB Falls to The Citadel in Season-Opening Match

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UAB rifle team suffered a 4,559-4,539 loss to The Citadel on Saturday at the Inouye Marksmanship Center.
The Blazers topped the Bulldogs in the smallbore by 15 points, outscoring The Citadel 2,250-2,235. UAB's Amy Kohan and Sophia Flores took home the top two spots in the smallbore standings with scores of 571 and 567, respectively.
Maggie Vonderau finished third overall with an aggregate score of 1,143, missing out on the tying for the top individual score by just six points. Vonderau paced the Blazers in the air rifle standings with a fourth-place score of 578. The junior also finished fourth in the smallbore standings with a score of 565.
Tommy Loring finished sixth and Flores placed eighth to round out the top three finishers for the Green and Gold in the air rifle standings. UAB recorded an air rifle team score of 2,289.
The Citadel took home the season-opening victory behind a 2,324-2,289 advantage in the air rifle standings.
UAB returns to the range for its next match at Georgia Southern on Oct. 16.
