UAB Rifle Picks up Two Conference Wins on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB rifle team came away with two SoCon wins on Saturday in Charleston, S.C., defeating The Citadel and VMI.
UAB topped the leaderboard with an aggregate score of 4599, while The Citadel posted 4546 and VMI fired a 4487. UAB also paced the field in team smallbore score (2282), while finishing just behind The Citadel (2326) in air rifle with a score of 2317.
Sophomore Amy Kohan led the Green and Gold in aggregate score (1152) and air rifle (587), while Zoe Lum paced the team in smallbore, shooting 578. Kohan and Lum finished second and third, respectively, in the match.
Maggie Vonderau was just behind in fourth with an aggregate total of 1149 (566 smallbore, 583 air), while Jordan Blankenship fired a 1145 (573 air, 572 smallbore), slated at sixth overall. Sophia Flores (1138) and Tommy Loring (1131) wrapped up Blazers in the top-10, as they placed ninth and tenth, respectively.
Saturday's match was also UAB's designated conference match against Wofford, but, as the match between the two schools earlier in the season was canceled, the two competed against each other virtually. Stay tuned to UAB Rifle's social media channels for an update with that score.
