Women’s Tennis Opens up Spring Schedule at Alabama

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's tennis team opens up their 2021 Spring season on Saturday. The Blazers begin the 19-match slate in Tuscaloosa, taking on Alabama. Match time is 11 a.m. at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
The nonconference schedule is highlighted by a pair of Power 5 teams in Georgia Tech (Jan. 29) and Mississippi State (Feb. 6) – both on the road. The Blazers will also host Tulane (March 7). Last season, UAB defeated the Green Wave for the first time in almost 20 years.
UAB will play four Conference USA matches. The Blazers face Southern Miss (Mar. 19) and LA Tech (Mar. 20) with both matches being held in Hattiesburg. The next weekend, UAB travels to Bowling Green, Ky. to face WKU on Mar. 27. The final C-USA match, which is also the final match of the regular season, will be April 10 against Middle Tennessee at George Ward Park.

The Blazers first home match of the season will be Feb. 9 when they host Mercer at George Ward Park.
UAB is coming off a fall season where they won 77% of the singles matchups. The Blazers played in two events – the ITA Fall Circuit and the UTC Invite.
The team returns seniors Megan Bertrands, Jana Hecking and Dominika Hrabalova as well as junior Adela Wasserbauerova. New the squad are Alexandra Ferreira da Silva, a sophomore transfer from Winthrop and freshmen Sydney Clarke, Annalisa Smith and Maggie White.
Last season, UAB ended the year on an eight match winning streak. Overall, the Blazers were 11-4 and a perfect 8-0 at home.
