Beach Volleyball Defeats Missouri State; Falls to No. 16 TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas – The UAB beach volleyball team split a pair of matches with Missouri State and No. 16 TCU on the first day of the Fight in the Fort on the campus of Texas Christian.
The Blazers (5-3, 2-2 CCSA) opened the day with a 3-2 victory over conference foe Missouri State, who is in its first year as a member of the CCSA. In the afternoon match, UAB dropped a closely contested CCSA match to No. 16 TCU, 4-1.
Abbey Thorup and Emma Andraka went 2-0 today as they partnered together for the first time this year. Their three set victory on Court 3 gave UAB its lone point against TCU.
In the morning match against the Bears, Annie Pringle and Sarah Dickson gave UAB a 1-0 lead with a straight set 21-10, 21-13 victory on Court 5. Thorup and Andraka also won their match in straight sets with a 24-22, 21-18 triumph on Court 2.
With the match tied 2-2, Kenley Adams and Mikayla Law-Heese rallied on Court 1 after dropping the first set 21-19 to give UAB the team victory by winning the second set 21-15 and dominating the third 15-8.
Thorup and Andraka moved down to Court 3 against TCU and won their match in three sets 17-21, 21-15, 15-9. Pringle and Dickson also went to three sets on Court 4, but were unable to come out victorious. All other courts were straight set victories for TCU.
With two wins today, Thorup now owns a team-best 7-1 overall record.
The Blazers are back in action on Saturday against No. 1 LSU at 1 p.m. This will be the first time in program history UAB has played the No. 1 team in the nation. Fans can click here for live results.
