BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team hits the road for the first time this season as the Blazers travel to TCU for the Fight in the Fort this Friday and Saturday, March 6-7.
The Blazers (4-2, 1-1 CCSA) will play three matches this weekend, all against conference opponents, including No. 1 LSU. This will be the first time in program history UAB will face the No. 1 team in the nation.
UAB opens the tournament with Missouri State on Friday at 10:30 a.m. CST, followed by playing No. 16 TCU at 4:30 p.m. The Blazers face LSU on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Blazers are coming off a 3-1 weekend at home and now hit the most difficult part of their schedule. Along with playing two nationally ranked teams this weekend, UAB then travel to Stetson next weekend to play matches against four of the eight teams that reached the NCAA National Championship a season ago (Florida State, Stetson, USC, Hawaii).
Senior Kenley Adams, freshman Abbey Thorup and freshman Arden Coppin find themselves individually ranked inside the latest collegebeachvb.com MoVR Top 125 rankings.
Adams leads the way as she checks in this week at No. 24. Thorup is ranked No. 40 and Copping No. 115. All three of these players are off to a 5-1 start this season.
Adams is also approaching a milestone as she is six wins away from becoming UAB's career leader in victories. Adams has 47 career wins and eyes the record of 52 set by recent graduate Tressa Buckland.
