Dear UAB,
Thank you for being a home away from home, and a place that I know I can always come back to. Thank you for introducing me to some of my future bridesmaids, best friends and mentors. Thank you for every memory, good or bad, that has taught me lifelong lessons. Thank you for providing me the opportunity to play the sport I love while earning my college degree. Thank you for having a positive impact on my life. Thank you for helping shape me into the woman I'm becoming. You have shown me that I can do whatever I put my mind to no matter the circumstances. UAB welcomed an 18-year-old girl who did not know what to expect, moving 11 hours from home.
Thank you for bringing me coaches that not only helped me on the basketball court, but in life. Thank you to my coaches for pushing me to limits that I never knew I had inside of me. I will forever cherish the relationships I have made with them.
Thank you to the fans at UAB, for being more faithful than any fans I've ever seen. Seeing our fans at every game makes it even better to play for the name across our chest. How could you not enjoy playing in front of these amazing people? Thank you, UAB fans, for not only supporting the women's basketball team, but for supporting women's teams in general. We appreciate your voice in women's sports.
My teammates. Thank you. Thank you for being my sisters away from home. Thank you for being there for me no matter what I went through, basketball or not. Thank you for accepting my northern accent, no matter how much Y'ALL hate it! These past four years have been a rollercoaster ride, but I would not want to go through it with anyone else. I love each of you like my biological sisters and this bond we have is for life.
So, thank you UAB, for some of the best four years of my life.
Love,

Lea Kerstein
