UAB to Host Blazer Beach Bash Friday and Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team is set to host the Blazer Beach Bash this weekend, Feb. 28-29, featuring a five-team tournament at its on-campus Blazer Beach Courts.
UAB (1-1, 0-1 CCSA) welcomes conference foe ULM, along with Coastal Carolina, Eastern Kentucky and Nicholls State. The Blazers will play ULM and Nicholls State on Friday, followed by EKU and Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE:
Friday, Feb. 28
10 a.m. – UAB vs. ULM
11:30 a.m. – EKU vs. Coastal Carolina
1 p.m. – UAB vs. Nicholls State
2:30 p.m. – ULM vs. EKU
4 p.m. – Coastal Carolina vs. Nicholls State
Saturday, Feb. 29
9 a.m. – UAB vs. EKU
10:30 a.m. – ULM vs. Coastal Carolina
12 p.m. – Nicholls State vs. EKU
1:30 p.m. UAB vs. Coastal Carolina
3 p.m. – ULM vs. Nicholls State
The Blazers will be led into action this week by senior Kenley Adams and freshman Abbey Thorup. This duo went 2-0 last week on Court 1 against North Alabama and Tulane, which was highlighted by defeating the Green Wave's Kaylie McHugh who was an All-CCSA Preseason selection.
Adams now has 44 career victories, 20 of which have come on Court 1. She is nine wins away from becoming the program leader for overall career victories, and eight wins away from having the most Court 1 wins in school history.
Two other pairs in SalliAnne Napolitano and Arden Copping, and Jenna Gathright and Brooke Stansel each split last weekend going 1-1, while four other Blazers look for their first wins of the early season after falling in both matches last week.
UAB is 6-4 against ULM and has won two matches in row. This will be the first time meeting as conference opponents as this is ULM's first year as member of the CCSA.
The Blazers are 1-0 against both Coastal Carolina and EKU, while this is the first meeting between UAB and Nicholls State.
Following this weekend, UAB hits the road for the first time this season when the Blazers head to TCU for a full CCSA weekend with matches against the Horned Frogs, No. 2 LSU and Missouri State.
