DALLAS β The UAB track and field team earned two all-conference spots for its performance in the 2020 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend as junior Brittany Floyd garnered Second Team All-Conference USA honors for her silver medal in the pentathlon while the Distance Medley Relay Team of redshirt junior Celestial Moon, junior Bethan Evans, sophomore Jabriana Jemison and senior Serena Martinez took bronze for Third Team All-Conference USA honors.
Β
Floyd's silver medal in the pentathlon came first for the Blazers after an impactful performance across the board, finishing first in the long jump and second in both the 60-meter hurdles and 800-meter run. The Columbus, Ga., native's 3,688 overall points in the pentathlon set a personal best as she also notched career highs in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.10 seconds and the 800-meter run at 2:23.04. Floyd went for gold in the pentathlon at the Samford Multi earlier in the season as well after winning the shotput, long jump and 800-meter run outright.
Β
UAB's DMR crew later ran a 12:04.27 for bronze in its lone official run of the season. Individually from the group, three runners hold top season marks for the Blazers. Martinez posted the best mile time of the indoor season while Moon holds UAB's best 800-meter run tick. Evans boasts not only the season record, but Blazer program record for the 1,000-meter race after her performance at Boston's Scarlet and White Invite. Jemison has also had a successful indoor season in her own right, tallying two personal bests with one at the championships in the 400-meter race.
Β
Many teams across the NCAA will now turn their focus to the upcoming outdoor season. The next meet UAB is scheduled to compete in as a unit is the Spring Time Invite on March 21, the first collegiate meet scheduled to be held at UAB's new outdoor track and field facility.
