UAB Prepares for Final Indoor Regular Season Meet in Samford Invite 2
2/13/2020 4:10:00 PM | Women's Track & Field
BIRMINGHAM – The UAB track and field team will be back in action on Friday after a week off, staying close to home to compete in the Samford Invite 2.
Samford will host the event at the Birmingham CrossPlex, beginning at 8 a.m. with the women's weight throw. Competition will conclude on Friday with the men's 4x4.
Teams competing alongside the Blazers in the event have not been announced.
"This is our important time of the year. We have challenged the ladies to step up in their events and compete up to their capabilities. They have accepted that challenge, and I think we'll have a good meet at Samford," said coach Kurt Thomas. "It's out last meet before our championship meet, so we should be clicking on all cylinders. The throwers have done well the past few weeks, and we hope Rosalind (Stae) and Zoria (Miller) can continue that. Ebony (Tolliver), Karri (Green) and Lisa (Petkov) are ready for some good sprint performances. Beth (Evans), Cele (Moon), Selena (Martinez) and the distance crew are ready to race fast. Brittany (Floyd), Tia (Landrum) and Miren (Ederra) are all ready for big events too. They are all ready, so we'll see what they can do!"
UAB most recently competed in Harvard's Crimson Elite and Boston University's Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational. After the Blazers set multiple personal records with junior Bethan Evans leading the way after a third-place finish in the mile, Evans took a step up at Boston and set UAB's all-time record in the 1,000m at 2:54.82. Freshman Rosalind Stae, senior Karri Green, junior Ebony Tolliver and redshirt junior Celestial Moon also each etched their names into the top five of the program record books in their respective events throughout the day.
The Blazers will next face their biggest test of the indoor season, hosting the Conference USA Championships on Feb. 22-23 at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Meet information and coverage for each will be provided on the UAB track and field schedule page.
