2021 Signing Class: Jaylen Nowlin

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB baseball program and head coach Perry Roth announced the official signing of left-handed pitcher Jaylen Nowlin to the Blazers' 2021 class.
"Recruiting left-handed pitching is always a priority for us and Jaylen fits the mold of what we like on the mound," said Roth. "He has a standout athleticism, quick arm and good breaking ball. More importantly, he is an outstanding student, as evidenced by his membership in Phi Theta Kappa.
"We are getting a very good player, student and person that will be an integral part of the Blazer Baseball family."
Nowlin spent his high school career at Westlake High School in Atlanta, Ga. with head coach Kelcey White. With the Lions, Nowlin was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-District honors.
Last Spring with Chipola College in Marianna, Fla., he appeared in eight games and maintained a 3-0 record and a 3.00 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 18 innings. Collegiate Baseball had Chipola ranked as high as No. 4 nationally.
"We were able to continue following him at the junior college level once he committed to Chipola, where he has been able to learn from one of the best in Coach Jeff Johnson," added Roth. "Playing at such a highly respected program has prepared Jaylen to be ready for the next step of his career."
