Austin Watkins Jr. Selected to 2021 Reese’s Senior Bowl

BIRMINGHAM – UAB wide receiver Austin Watkins Jr. has been selected to play in the 72nd annual Reese's Senior Bowl, held in Mobile, Ala. on Jan. 30, 2021.
Watkins leads the Blazers in receiving this season, having brought in 34 receptions for 468 yards and three touchdowns through seven games.
The North Fort Myers, Fla. native was named Second Team All-Conference USA last season, a year in which he became just the third player in school history to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a season. Watkins ranked 21st nationally in yards per reception (19.16) and 28th in the country in receiving yards with 1,092.
Watkins Jr. has a reception in all 25 career games he's played in, and currently ranks seventh all-time at UAB in career receiving yards (1,642) and eighth in career receptions (98).
Watkins is the eighth player to wear the green and gold helmet at the Reese's Senior Bowl, joining Eddie Freeman and Bryan Thomas (2002), Chris Brown (2003), Roddy White (2005), Darrell Hackney (2006), Joe Webb (2010) and Matt McCants (2012).
Watkins and the Blazers return to Legion Field this Saturday, Nov. 14, as they host North Texas for the annual Salute to Service game Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. CST.
