UAB Rifle Tops Georgia Southern in Season-Opener

STATESBORO, Ga. - The No. 18 UAB rifle team opened its season in impressive fashion on Saturday at Georgia Southern, taking the first conference match of the season, 4572-4542.
Amy Kohan and Zoe Lum both finished the day with aggregate scores of 1150, while Maggie Vonderau was just behind with 1146. Sophia Flores shot an 1138 for the fourth-best mark on the squad. Jordan Blankenship notched a 1123 and Hallie Willis wrapped up Blazers on the range, as she shot a 1106.
In smallbore action, the top three spots belonged to the Blazers as Kohan, Lum and Vonderau notched scores of 570, 569 and 568, respectively. Flores claimed fifth place in smallbore with 560, while Blankenship placed seventh (556) and Willis finished 11th (543).
The Green and Gold claimed the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in air rifle as Lum placed second with a 581 while Kohan took home bronze with a 580. Vonderau and Flores finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with Blankenship 11th and Willis 12th in the discipline.
The two-time defending SoCon champion Blazers move to 1-0 in conference play on the season, while Georgia Southern drops to 2-1.

UAB is set to return to the range on Nov. 14 as they take on VMI in Lexington, Va.
