BIRMINGHAM –Protective Stadium is on pace to open in less than one year, and the construction in downtown Birmingham is advancing rapidly in preparation for the 2021 season of UAB Football.
With the framework already in place, here are key updates on what is happening inside the construction site this past month.
The pressbox/suite tower is fully visible from the interstate as the construction crew continues making progress on the inside, including the framing and hanging of drywall and sheathing.
The newest addition to Protective Stadium is the scoreboard being installed in the South end zone. Along with the structure for the scoreboard, the installation of the south east ramp foundations which will be the walkway onto the southeast concourse when completed.
As the bowl continues to take shape, precast seating installation continues in the southeast corner. Light towers have also begun to surround the future field.
Fans can follow live construction progress at the Protective Stadium Construction Cam.
"There is a tremendous amount of progress happening and you can start to envision what Protective Stadium will look like when it is finished," said UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "There is no better time to be a Blazer fan so be sure to secure your tickets and join us for the inaugural season of Protective Stadium."
Fans are encouraged to complete their Protective Stadium Letter of Intent, which secures an appointment time during the seat selection process.
