Blazers Wrap Up Second Scrimmage of Spring
4/11/2026 3:22:00 PM | Football
Quarterback Ryder Burton completed 6-of-7 passes for 60 yards during regular work, including a 37-yard touchdown connection with Jaylen Elder. On the ground, Rod Robinson II rushed four times for 30 yards, highlighted by a 20-yard touchdown run.
Defensively, the Blazers created multiple takeaways. Que Billingsley returned a fumble 59 yards for a touchdown, while Anta'Veon McKenzie and Draden Fullbright each recorded interceptions. Ike Esonwune added a fumble recovery.
Head coach Alex Mortensen said the overall energy and approach stood out throughout the session. "I think our effort and energy was pretty good, and that's always the first thing we're looking for," Mortensen said. He also pointed to continued growth in execution as the team works through installation. "Fundamentally, there are things we're looking to improve, but I do think we saw progress in those areas," he said. "We're moving in the right direction on both sides of the ball."
While turnovers remain a point of emphasis, Mortensen noted the defensive impact in creating those plays. "Offensively, you want to eliminate turnovers, but I'm also pleased with the defense because they generated some of those plays," he said.
The Blazers will continue spring practice on Tuesday as they prepare for the Spring Showcase on April 18 at Legacy Pavilion.
