BIRMINGHAM – The UAB track and field team will take a trip to the northeast this weekend, traveling to Massachusetts for a pair of meets for the third consecutive year. The Blazers will begin the weekend at the Crimson Elite, hosted by Harvard in Cambridge, Mass., on Friday. UAB will then move just south to Beantown for Boston University's Scarlet and White Invite on Saturday.
The Crimson Elite will get underway at 10:30 a.m. ET beginning with the women's pentathlon and conclude with the men's 400-meter race at 6:10 p.m. ET. Competition in the Scarlet and White Invite will start at 11 a.m. ET with the men's pole vault and finish at 6:15 p.m. ET with the men's 4x400 meter relay.
In the Scarlet and White Invite, the Blazers will compete against conference opponents and respected programs across the country including Boston College, Dartmouth, Florida Atlantic, FIU, Princeton, South Florida and Syracuse, among others. The Crimson Elite field has not been released.
UAB most recently hosted the Green and Gold Invitational, notching 13 top-five finishes. Freshman Alicia Abalos Cervera led the way through the weekend, claiming gold in the 600-meter race in her first attempt at the event.
The Blazers will head home and take a week off before returning to familiar territory to compete at the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by Samford on Feb. 14 at the Birmingham CrossPlex for the final meet of the indoor regular season. Meet information and coverage for each will be provided on the UAB track and field schedule page.
