Cervera Takes First in Day One of Green and Gold Invitational

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB track and field team finished day one of the Green and Gold Invitational on Friday with seven top-five finishes.
Freshman Alicia Abalos Cervera led the way for the Blazers, winning the 600-meter race with a time of 1:38.90 in her first try at the event.
Fellow freshman Lauren Robinson and senior Karri Green had the next best UAB finishes, both placing second. Robinson finished as runner up in her first attempt at the mile after clocking in at 5:07.02, while Green nearly missed first in the 300-meter dash with a personal best time of 40.19 seconds.
On the field side, sophomore Shauntia Landrum reached 11.66 meters in the triple jump to finish third.
In preliminary rounds, sophomore Ashleigh Ivory and senior Kyla Horn both ran the 60-meter hurdles, placing third and fourth, respectively. Ivory ran a 9.107 for third while Horn ran a 9.109 for fourth as both qualified for finals. Rounding out the Blazers' top finishes, senior Ebony Tolliver ran a 7.786 in the 60-meter dash to place fifth and qualify for finals.
The Blazers will complete the Green and Gold Invitational on Saturday as the event resumes with the men's pole vault at 10 a.m. Further meet information is provided on the UAB track and field schedule page.
