BIRMINGHAM – TCU scored in the 25^th and 64^th minutes to spoil UAB's home opener at BBVA Field 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Blazers' keeper Johanna Popp faced 17 shots and turned back six of those, while facing eight corner kicks in the contest.

UAB (0-1-1) fired six shots at TCU keeper Emily Alvarado. Megan Hudgens and Lexxe Lipsey each registered two.

Gracie Brian and Tara Smith found the back of the net for the Horned Frogs (1-1-0).

Lipsey had the Blazers' first opportunity to score, but her shot was stopped point blank by Alvarado. Hudgens also had an opportunity in the in the 74th minute, but was turned away.

"This was a good performance against a very skilled opponent in TCU," said head coach Erica Demers. "Today was a good opportunity to play against a team that typically is very strong and makes it to the NCAA tournament. We like to play opponents like that because that is a goal of this program to be in that position."

TCU has made the College Cup the past three years, advancing to the second round last season.

"I was really proud of the team in the first half and how they continued to stick to the game plan as well as executing it. But we fell out of that plan in the second half a little bit. Games like this show us where we need to improve."

Next weekend UAB will make the 250 mile trek south to Mobile when they face South Alabama (Aug. 30) and Troy (Sept. 1) in the Jaguar Classic. The next home contest will be Sept. 5 against Alabama State.
