BIRMINGHAM - The UAB track and field team racked up three top-five finishes in just six events during day one of the Tiger Track Classic on Friday in Auburn, Ala.
"The girls competed so well and really achieved some important marks," head coach Kurt Thomas said. "Coach Esche and Coach Jordon have done a great job preparing them and they performed well."
Shauntia Landrum recorded UAB's first top-five finish of the meet while also setting a personal record in the triple jump as she placed fourth with a distance of 11.90 meters.
Emily Drouin followed up last weekend's school record-setting performance in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a third-place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:28.83. Drouin's time is a new personal record and stands at fifth in Conference USA.
The 3000 meter steeplechase saw UAB finish in the top-five for the second straight meet, with Britney Johnson coming in second place, finishing with a time of 11:05.32, another Blazer personal record and the sixth-best time in the league.
Brittany Floyd recorded a distance of 36.49 meters in the javelin throw to finish in sixth place, while Serena Martinez placed just outside the top-10 in the 1500 meters with a 4:53.80.
Madison Kirkwood, Laci Turner and Laura Thompson wrapped up the top-15 finishes for the Green and Gold as Kirkwood and Turner finished 13th and 14th in the javelin throw, respectively. Thompson ran in the final event of the day, the 5000 meters, placing 12th with a time of 18:04.87.
"Emily is fit and running fast, so her 1500 meter was some good speed work for her," Thomas said. "Tia is jumping well and keeps getting better each week. Brittany Floyd threw the javelin well in preparation for her heptathlon next week and Britney Johnson is starting to figure out the steeplechase."
