BIRMINGHAM – The UAB track and field team returns to action this weekend as it heads to Atlanta, Georgia to participate in the Georgia Tech Invitational at Griffin Track and Field Facility.
"We are really looking to compete at a high level across the board," head coach Kurt Thomas said. "We're a few weeks from our conference championship and we need to perform like it. The girls have been doing a nice job the past few meets but we need to stay focused."
The meet serves as the final regular season competition for the Green and Gold, as the Conference USA Championships begin May 9 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Action begins at 11 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday, with day one getting underway with the hammer throw and day two kicking off with the high jump and pole vault. Competitions are set to conclude at 9 p.m. on Friday and 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.
UAB is looking to build off a strong performance at last week's Alabama Track Challenge in which Brittany Floyd claimed gold in the heptathlon.

In addition to the Georgia Tech Invitational, two Blazers will be in action in Durham, North Carolina for the Duke Invite as Emily Drouin and Katie Nelson will both race in the 5000 meters.

"Emily and Katie are competing at a high level Duke meet for the 5000 meters and the other distance athletes, Cele, Serena, Britney and Laura will compete at Georgia Tech to put themselves in scoring position for C-USAs," Thomas said. "The 4x100 and 4x400 have solid times but it would be nice to run fast again before the championships. Marielle has run the 400m hurdles well and we're looking for her to put a whole race together this weekend in Atlanta."
