BIRMINGHAM – The UAB baseball begins its longest homestand of the season on Tuesday night when it welcomes Alabama to Regions Field. First pitch between the Blazers and Crimson Tide is set for 6:30 p.m.
UAB (16-21, 3-12 C-USA) looks to avenge a 4-3 loss at Alabama earlier in the season. The Blazers scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning, but they proved not to be enough as the Crimson Tide took the first game of the season series. However, the Green and Gold enter Tuesday night in the midst of a three-game mid-week winning streak, recording a pair of victories over Samford and one in extra inning at Troy.
The Blazers are among the nation's best in stealing bases, ranking third in the NCAA in stolen bases (96) and seventh in swipes per game (2.6). Jess Davis and Tyler Tolbert lead the charge, as they rank second and ninth nationally, respectively, in stolen bases and third and sixth, respectively, in stolen bases per game. Davis is also coming off of a weekend in which he tallied a career high three hits in game one at Middle Tennessee.
Justin Wiley has made the most of his opportunities of being in the lineup. The infielder is hitting .520 with four extra bases hits in his last 10 games and has registered multi-hits in four of his last six contests.
Riley Davis is scheduled to get the start on the bump for the Blazers. The sophomore is making his second consecutive mid-week start, while he leads the UAB staff in appearances (15). The Helena native has allowed 24 runs on 38 hits with just 10 walks allowed and 25 strikeouts.
Alabama (23-14, 4-11 SEC) is coming off of being swept at No. 3 Mississippi State last weekend, but defeated Samford 21-2 last Tuesday in Homewood. Kolby Robinson leads the Crimson Tide offense, batting .347 with 17 runs scored on 41 hits, including four doubles a triple.
Tyler Ras is scheduled to get the start on the mound for the Crimson Tide. The right hander is making his ninth start of the season and has allowed 11 runs on 30 hits with 21 strikeouts and nine walks issued over 24.1 innings of work.
Tickets to Tuesday night's game can be purchased online or at the Regions Field Box Office, beginning at 5 p.m. All tickets are general admission and are $10 for adults or $6 for kids 18 and younger. Contact the UAB Ticket Office, (205) 975-UAB1, for more details.
All UAB students will receive free admission to the contest, while the first 300 through the gates will get a free t-shirt.
Prior to the contest, the Blazers will recognize the UAB Rifle team to celebrate the program's first SoCon Championship in school history.
