BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team is set to put the finishing touch on its 2018-19 regular season campaign on Thursday night when it faces Louisiana Tech on ESPN+. Tip off between the Blazers and Lady Techsters is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
UAB (23-5, 11-4 C-USA) is coming off of a 68-45 victory over UTEP last Saturday on Senior Day. The Blazers netted 14 3-pointers in the win as 10 came off the hands of Rachael Childress who finished with a career high 29 points.
Childress is among the nation's best in her ability to shoot the long ball, ranking fourth in the NCAA in 3-point field goals per game (3.6), sixth in triples made (100) and 17th in 3-pointers attempted (238). Additionally, the Moulton, Ala., native ranks second in program history in career 3-pointers (302) and is chasing her own record for most in a single season.
Miyah Barnes and her ability to share the basketball has also been instrumental in the success of the Green and Gold as the junior ranks sixth in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.6), while leading Conference USA in assists (139) and assists per game (5.0).
As a team, the Blazers rank 19th nationally in 3-point field goals per game (8.9), 21st in triples made (248) and 32nd in 3-pointers attempted (699). UAB also ranks third nationally in fewest turnovers per game (11.2) and turnovers (314), fourth in 3-point field goal percentage defense (24.8 percent) and fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5).
Louisiana Tech (14-14, 6-9 C-USA) ranks third in C-USA in points per game, averaging 72.8 per contest but are giving up the 11th most at 69.7 per game.
Kierra Anthony headlines the Lady Techsters' offense with a league leading 23.6 points per game. The senior netted 50 points against Houston earlier this season and has finished in double figures in all but one contest this year.
UAB and Louisiana Tech are meeting for the ninth time in program history with the winner of this contest getting to take a one-game lead in the series. The Lady Techsters took the first meeting this season, 73-68, behind a 35-point performance from Anthony.
