ATLANTA – The UAB beach volleyball team lost a pair of closely contested 3-2 matches to College of Charleston and University of Tampa on Friday at Georgia State.
After falling behind 2-0 with losses on courts four and five against College of Charleston, UAB drew closer as Jayme Bratsberg and Annie Pringle won a 21-14, 21-15 court three decision over Mandy Napierala and Amani Dunston.
The Blazers then evened the match at 2-2 as Tressa Buckland and Jaelyn Keene won their third match in a row as partners with a thrilling 21-19, 17-21, 15-13 triumph over Kennedy Madison and Lauren Freed.
With the match in the balance, the Cougars duo of McKala Rhodes and Devon Rachel were able to outlast UAB's Kenley Adams and SalliAnne Napolitano in a heartbreaking three set match 21-18, 16-21, 19-17.
The Blazers once again started down 0-2 in the match against Tampa, and it was Bratsberg and Pringle who gave UAB its first point of the contest with a straight set 21-13, 21-15 victory on court three.
Just like the morning match, both courts one and two went to three sets, and it was a mirror of the morning match as Keene and Buckland won their third set 15-13 to even the match at 2-2. However, Adams and Napolitano were defeated 15-10 in the third set on court two to give Tampa the 3-2 victory.
The Blazers (9-9, 2-7 CCSA) are back in action tomorrow with a conference contest against UNC Wilmington at 10 a.m. EST, followed by their final match of the weekend versus Arizona State at 2 p.m. EST.
