Blazers and Monarchs Meet for ESPN+ Matchup

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team plays the second contest of its three game road trip when it travels to Norfolk, Va., to face Old Dominion on Thursday night on ESPN+. Tipoff between the Blazers and Monarchs is set for 5:30 p.m. CST at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
UAB (18-4, 6-3 C-USA) is coming off a 60-44 loss at Middle Tennessee last Saturday night. Miyah Barnes led UAB with 13 points on four field goals and five made free throws. Barnes has been most effective this season sharing the basketball, helping UAB to a league leading 16.5 assists per game. Individually, the junior ranks fifth in the NCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.4) and first in Conference USA in assists (111) and assists per game (5.0).
The Blazers enter Thursday's contest ranking second in C-USA in points per game (73.9) and third in fewest points allowed (57.0), while holding the 15th best scoring margin (+17.0) in the country. Rachael Childress paces three Blazers averaging double figure scoring with 14.1 points per game. The Moulton, Ala., native ranks fourth in the country in 3-point field goals made (75), fifth in 3-point field goals attempted (185) and ninth in triples per game (3.4). She has amassed 227 made 3-pointers over her career, ranking second all-time in program history.
Old Dominion (16-6, 7-3) was on a seven-game winning streak before having it snapped to league leading Rice last Saturday night. The Monarchs rank fourth in C-USA in points per game (69.6), but just seventh in points allowed per game (63.0).
Victoria Morris leads Old Dominion's offense, averaging 13.0 points per game contest and has knocked down 53 made 3-pointers. Ajah Wayne ranks second on the team in scoring (11.1), but is third in the league in rebounds per game (8.4).
UAB and Old Dominion are meeting for the 19th time in program history with the Monarchs leading the series 13-5. UAB is just 2-8 all-time in Norfolk, but has split in its last two trips to the Convocation Center.
