BOSTON – Running this weekend at the Harvard Elite and Boston University Scarlett and White Invitational, the UAB track and field team turned out some fast times and has positioned itself for a strong push going into the C-USA Indoor Championships in two weeks.
Senior Emily Drouin continues to blitz the competition in the 3,000 meters and did so on Saturday at the Boston University Scarlett and White Invitational, running a personal best 9:35.28. The time is currently the fastest in the conference.
The closest runner to Drouin in C-USA is her teammate Katie Nelson who ran a 9:51.68 on Saturday in the 3,000. The duo currently holds the top two spots in the 5,000 meters as well with Drouin claiming the top spot with a time of 16:51.66 while Nelson is second at 17:36.14.
Freshman Amelie Dierke made her collegiate debut this weekend and turned in a strong performance on Saturday finishing third in the 60 meters with a time of 7.62. Marielle Lewis ran well in the 800 meter with a time of 2:15.00. The time places her seventh in the conference.
Blazer Highlights
"I think we came away with a solid weekend all around," Thomas said. "We competed at two really good meets with great competition and our goal was for everyone to improve in their area. I feel we did that. Emily and Katie ran great 3ks and have top C-USA marks. Amelie came out and sprinted to a top 3 finish in the 60m. Laura, Karlee and Britney ran well in the 3k and 1000m and I was proud of Alyssa Nelson running a gutsy 500m and for Marielle to keep improving in the 800m. Ebony Tolliver continued to get faster in the 200m and Brittany Floyd put together some good long jumps as well. Overall, we accomplished a lot and have to get back to school and get back to work to fix some things as we get closer to the C-USA Championships in two weeks."
