Men’s Tennis Defeats C-USA Rival Southern Miss, 4-1

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB men's tennis team claimed its second consecutive victory on Sunday afternoon as it overcame Southern Miss, 4-1, at home.
The result broke a two-game losing streak to the Golden Eagles (2-1, 0-1 C-USA) and gave UAB its first home win and first conference win of the season.
After losing the first doubles match, the Blazers (4-3, 1-0 C-USA) came back to win the doubles point. Roman Postolka and Michal Lusovsky defeated Tom Cecchetto and Chung-Han Tsai, 6-2, before Jasper Van Kleef and Giovani Pasini clinched the point with a 7-5 victory over Mieszko Kwasniewski and Matthieu Peres.
Southern Miss claimed the first point in singles play but UAB came back with three straight wins to win the match.
Daniel Janko overcame Cecchetto, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, before fellow freshman Michal Lusovsky defeated Tsai, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Tom el Safadi clinched the match for UAB by claiming a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kwasniewski.
The Blazers return to the courts on Saturday to take on South Alabama. The match will be held on the campus of Samford University.
