UAB Welcomes Middle Tennessee for Alumni Day

BIRMINGHAM – Coming off a pair of home victories, the UAB women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, Feb., 23 when it welcomes Middle Tennessee to Bartow Arena for Alumni Day. Tipoff between the Blazers and Blue Raiders is set for 2 p.m.
UAB (21-5, 9-4 C-USA) is coming off a 70-63 victory over WKU last Saturday. Miyah Barnes led a trio of Blazers to find the double figure scoring column, finishing with a team high 19 points. Barnes has been most effective this season sharing the basketball, leading Conference USA in assists (127) and assists per game (4.1). The junior ranks fourth all-time in career assists (382).
This has been quite the week for senior Deanna Kuzmanic as she was named the C-USA Player of the Week and earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic First Team All-District 4 squad. On the court last week the senior averaged 18.5 points and 7.0 rebounds over two games, adding seven assists and a pair of steals.
Middle Tennessee (19-7, 10-3 C-USA) comes to Birmingham having two of its last three games, but sit in second place in the C-USA standings. The Blue Raiders rank eighth in the league in points per game (65.0), but are allowing the second fewest points per game (55.6).
A'Queen Hayes leads the Middle Tennessee offense, averaging 15.7 points per game, the seventh most in the league. The graduate transfer also ranks sixth in rebounding (7.5) and recorded a double-double (21 PTS/14 RBS) in the first meeting this season.
UAB and Middle Tennessee are meeting for the 19th time in program history and for the second time this season. The Blue Raiders took the first game between the two squads 60-44 on Feb. 2 in Murfreesboro.
Saturday is UAB's annual Alumni Day with all of the former Blazers being recognized at halftime. Kids 12 and younger can also participate in the Post Game Shootaround.
Tickets to Saturday's contest can be purchased online or at the Bartow Arena Ticket Office one hour prior to tip. Tickets are $5 for adults or $3 for kids 18 and younger.
