BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team begins a three-game road swing when it makes the trip up I-65 to face Middle Tennessee on Saturday night. Tip between the Blazers and Blue Raiders is set for 6 p.m. from the Murphy Center.
UAB (18-3, 6-2 C-USA) is coming off of a 55-43 loss to Rice on Jan. 26 at Bartow Arena. Deanna Kuzmanic led the Blazers in scoring with 12 points and to recorded her 72nd career game to net double figures. In the last three games, Kuzmanic has averaged 11.3 points per game, while reeling in 4.3 rebounds per contest.
The ability to shoot the 3-pointers has played a major role in the Green and Gold's success this season as they rank 13th nationally in 3-point field goals (188) and in triples attempted (527) and lead Conference USA with 9.0 3-point field goals per game. Individually, Rachael Childress ranks third in the NCAA in 3-point field goals made (75), fifth in attempts (182) and eighth in 3-pointers per game (3.6).
The Blazers have shown the ability to share the basketball as they rank 20th nationally in assists (357) and 25th in assists per game (17.0). Miyah Barnes and Kuzmanic rank first and second, respectively, in assist-to-turnover ratio in C-USA, while Barnes also ranks 21st in assists (108) and 40th in assists per game (5.1).
Middle Tennessee (16-5, 7-1 C-USA) sits in second place in the league standings and is coming off of a 61-46 victory over North Texas. The Blue Raiders' offense averages 65.2 points per game, while holding opponents to the 10th fewest points per game (54.7) in the nation.
