Blazers Host Auburn at Bartow

BIRMINGHAM- The UAB women's basketball team will host Auburn at home for the first time since 2008 this Thursday at 6 p.m. at Bartow Arena.
Despite their record, the Blazers have been shooting red-hot lately scoring 77.7 points per game led by a senior packed starting five in which three players are averaging double digit scoring. Miyah Barnes leads the team averaging 19.7 points per game followed by Rachael Childress' 16.0 points and Trista Magee's 10.0 points.
UAB (1-2) came within a possession of defeating Boise State last Friday before falling to the Broncos 83-81 in the final game of the preseason WNIT. The Blazers shot 48.2 percent from the field and 52.2 percent from three-point range in the loss to the defending Mountain West champions.
Auburn (1-1) opened the season with a close 84-82 win over Wofford before falling at home to Old Dominion 89-77. The Tigers high scoring offense has put up 80.5 points per game which is tied for 35th in the country but they have allowed 85.5 points on the defensive end.
Senior guard Dasia Alexander leads Auburn in scoring averaging 19.5 points after a 22-point performance against Wofford and another 17 points against Old Dominion. Junior forward Unique Thompson is right behind Alexander averaging 19.0 points with a double-double in both games this season. Thompson put up a team high 25 points with 13 rebounds against Wofford and managed to grab 10 more rebounds and score 13 points against Old Dominion.
"Anytime you have two in-state schools playing each other it is great for both programs," said head coach Randy Norton. "Auburn is a big an athletic team that will help prepare our team to compete for championships. We will need our fans to show their support by being there and being loud."
The Blazers and Tigers have met on 33 previous occasions with Auburn leading the series 29-4, holding a 17-game winning streak over UAB. The last UAB victory came in January of 1992 when the Blazers defeated Auburn 57-56 in Bartow Arena.
