UAB Baseball Announces Carson Knight as First Signee of 2020 Signing Class

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB baseball program and head coach Brian Shoop announced left-handed pitcher Carson Knight as the first official signee of the 2020 signing class on Thursday morning.
Knight attends Muscle Shoals High School, where he plays for head coach Paul Ellis. Knight went 9-2 last spring, striking out 75 hitters in only 45 innings pitched. He finished the year with a 2.70 ERA. Knight's impressive junior season earned a spot in the annual North/South All-star game in Montgomery, Ala. this past June.
In the summer, Knight pitched for the East Coast Sox for head coach Joe Caruso and pitching coach Eric Dubose, where he's earned lofty recognition among prep players in Alabama from Prep Baseball Report as the No. 18 prospect and No. 1 left-handed pitcher. The Muscle Shoals, Ala., native was also named by Perfect Game as the 20th overall rated prospect and the second rated left-handed pitcher in the state of Alabama. Knight pitched 10 innings, allowing only three hits and striking out 20 against four walks without giving up a run during the summer.
"We have known Carson for years because his older brother Kyle served as a team manager here in 2011. We knew that Carson was a special young man from a special family, exactly the high character that we try to recruit into our program," said Shoop. "Then Carson developed into one of the best pitchers in our state. We fully believe Carson will be able to make a big contribution early in his career and can become a key piece to build around in the future. I can't tell you how excited we are to welcome Carson into our program and his entire family back into the Blazer Baseball Family."
