UAB Shoots -3; Eighth After Round 1 of White Sands Intercollegiate

NASSAU, Bahamas– The UAB men's golf team shot a collective three under par in the first round of the White Sands Intercollegiate and is in eighth place entering Saturday's second round in the Bahamas.
Both William Walker III and Murray Naysmith shot a two-under 70 and are tied for 20th with 36 holes remaining. Walker III caught fire down the stretch, birding three of his final four holes, while Naysmith carded four birdies and two bogeys in his round.
Alfie Fox shot even par is tied for 41st. Fox showed great resolve as he found himself at four-over early in the round, but recovered to shoot four under on the final 12 holes for his round of par.
Junior Ben Reichert is one shot behind Fox and tied for 53rd after shooting +1. Freshman Khavish Varadan shot +2 to round out UAB's efforts and is tied for 61st.
Florida State (-13) has the team lead after the first 18 holes, followed by Houston (-12), No. 2 SMU (-10), No. 22 Arkansas (-9) and Middle Tennessee (-9).
Individually, Parker Gilliam of Wake Forest shot an incredible 12-under 60 and has a six-shot lead over the field.
