Women’s Golf Continues Fall Slate at Palmetto Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM– Coming off its second team title of the season last time on the course, the UAB women's golf team looks to keep that momentum going this week at the Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Charleston in Kiawah Island, S.C.
The Blazers have finished no worse than second place in each of their first three tournaments and have two tournament victories under their belts. With a 31-1-0 overall record, UAB has already matched its overall wins total from last year when it played 10 tournaments.
The Palmetto Intercollegiate is scheduled for Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 13-15 at Kiawah Island Resort. The course will play par 72, 6,005 yards. UAB will tee off at 12:50 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
Head Coach Ryan Ashburn will field a team consisting of senior Tia Teiniketo, sophomore Chiara Vikkula, sophomore Caroline Waldrup, Senior Kenna Hughes and junior Stephenie Fowler.
UAB will be facing its most competitive field yet. Along with the Blazers, the other 21 teams competing features Boston College, Boston U, Charleston Southern, two College of Charleston teams, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Daytona State, East Tennessee State, Elon, Fresno State, Jacksonville State, Kansas, Marshall, North Florida, Old Dominion, Radford, Troy, UNC Greensboro, Wichita State and Xavier.
Teiniketo and Vikkula have been consistent forces at the top of UAB's lineup. Teiniketo leads the team with a 71.8 stroke average and has yet to finish lower than 7th in any tournament this season.
Vikkula is coming off a second-place finish at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic and has two top-10 finishes to her name has been inside the top 20 in all three tournaments this season, which are the first three tournaments of her collegiate career.
