Rifle Takes First at The Citadel

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB rifle team took first place at The Citadel, winning its second consecutive meet to begin the season and moving to 5-0.
"I am really proud of the way our team shot today," said head coach Lori Goodwin. "This is a great way to begin the season and we look forward to the remainder of the year."
The Blazers took gold by shooting 2266 in smallbore and 2290 in air rifle for an aggregate score of 4556, six points higher than their season-opening meet at Georgia Southern. The host team Citadel men finished in second with an aggregate score of 4519, while Georgia Southern claimed third, shooting 4438 aggregate.
UAB picked up a SoCon win as well, as the meet toward as the Blazers' conference match against The Citadel.
Sophia Flores notched her second-consecutive top overall individual mark with an aggregate score of 1155, shooting 574 in smallbore and 581 in air rifle. Flores also took first in smallbore and air rifle.
Zoe Lum placed fourth overall, shooting 1133 in aggregate, while also finishing fourth in small bore with a 566. Lum shot a 567 in air rifle.
Captain Lilly Vonderau took home third in air rifle, shooting 574, and did not compete in smallbore competition.
Blazers in the top-10 were rounded out by Jordan Blankenship and Amy Kohan, who finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

The Blazers return to action on Oct. 26 as they travel to Dahlonega, Ga. to compete against Georgia Southern and host school North Georgia.
