Blazers Host Mean Green on Education Day

BIRMINGHAM - Coming off another perfect weekend on the road in Conference USA, the (RV) UAB women's basketball team returns to Bartow Arena on Thursday when it welcomes North Texas. Tipoff between the Blazers and Mean Green is set for 11 a.m. for UAB's annual Education Day.
UAB (17-2, 5-1 C-USA) defeated UTSA in its last time out on the back of Rachael Childress' 21 points. The junior is one of the nation's best from the 3-point line, ranking second in triples made (72), attempts (173) and fifth in 3-point field goals per game (3.8). The Moulton, Ala., native has netted double figures in her last nine games and is averaging 16.7 points per game over the last three contests.
Averaging 77.3 points per game, the Blazers rank second in C-USA but boast the eighth best scoring margin (+20.6) in the NCAA. Defensively the Green and Gold have been just as strong, ranking second in the league in points per game allowed (56.7) and third in the nation in 3-point field goal defense (22.9 percent).
Katelynn Thomas has been instrumental in the offensive success this season as she ranks 17th nationally in field goal percentage (60.3 percent), connecting on 108-of-179 of her shots from the field. The Birmingham native has finished in double figures in 15 games this season and in seven of UAB's home contests.
North Texas (10-7, 3-2 C-USA) opened league play with three straight wins before dropping its last two games, including a 64-52 loss to Rice last Saturday. The Mean Green rank seventh in the league in points per game (66.8) and fifth in points allowed (58.9), but lead the conference in offensive rebounds per game (14.9).
Terriell Bradley leads the North Texas offense, ranking fourth in C-USA in scoring (18.0). Anisha George has been a force on the glass, ranking second in the conference in offensive rebounds per game (3.4) and fifth in rebounds per contest (7.6).
