UAB to Host UTSA on Saturday Night at Bartow Arena

BIRMINGHAM – After improving to 9-1 at home with a win on Thursday against UTEP, the UAB men's basketball team looks to keep that momentum going on Saturday when the Blazers host UTSA at Bartow Arena. Tip is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Blazers (11-7, 3-2 C-USA) used a dominant second half against the Miners en route to their ninth home victory, and put up a season-high 47 second half points en route to a 76-63 victory.
Redshirt senior forward Lewis Sullivan has led the way for the Green and Gold in conference play, averaging 14.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Sullivan ranks sixth in the league in field goal percentage (.620) and continued to perform at a high level on Thursday, recording his third career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Four UAB players, Sullivan, Zack Bryant, Tavin Lovan and Tyreek Scott-Grayson, notched double-digit point totals against UTEP, marking the tenth time that four Blazers have scored ten our more points in a game this season. Lovan tied his career high with 14 points.
UAB has been impressive defensively during conference play, ranking second in the league in scoring defense (63.0) and scoring margin (+6.6). The Blazers lead Conference USA in opponent field goal percentage, allowing opposing teams to shoot just .372 from the floor.
UAB also continues to rebound the ball well and leads the conference in rebounding margin (+7.2) and rebounding defense (30.9). The Blazers have won the rebounding battle in 15 of 18 contests this season. Their +7.2 rebounding margin ranks them 20th nationally.
UTSA (10-8, 4-1 C-USA) dropped a high-scoring game to Middle Tennessee, 89-86, in Murfreesboro on Thursday night. However, the Roadrunners recovered from an 0-5 start to win 10 of their next 13 games and find themselves in second place in the league standings.
UAB will have to contend with the league's second leading scorer Jhivvan Jackson who is averaging 21.0 points per game. Jackson had 28 points in UTSA's last game out at Middle Tennessee.
