BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - First year head coach Ryan Ashburn has announced the 2018-19 competition schedule for the UAB women's golf team, which features at least 10 guaranteed tournaments.
The Blazers will play in five tournaments during the fall, highlighted by The Battle at the Beach, which is hosted by Baylor University in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico. The spring slate has four tournaments plus the Conference USA Championship and potentially NCAA Regionals and the NCAA National Championship.
"In order to get better and build a championship program, you have to compete against the best programs out there," Ashburn said. "With our schedule this year, that gives us the opportunity to do so. We are traveling to some amazing places and I can't wait for us to get out there and compete."
The Blazers open the season in Mobile, Ala., at the University of South Alabama Intercollegiate at RTJ Magnolia, Sept. 15-17. UAB then takes a week off before heading to UNC Greensboro for the Starmount Fall Classic, slated for Oct. 1-2.
It is then off to the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in San Antonio Oct. 14-16 to play in a tournament hosted by C-USA foe UTSA, which is followed by playing in the Cardinal Cup the next weekend, hosted by Louisville, Oct. 20-21.
UAB will conclude its fall slate in Mexico at the Battle at the Beach in San Jose Del Cabo which is scheduled for Nov. 2-4. Baylor University annually plays host to the tournament in Mexico.
Following winter break, the Blazers resume competition with their first spring tournament at the Amelia Island Collegiate hosted by Jacksonville University in Fernandina Beach, Fla. Feb. 18-19. Their next tournament also takes place in the Sunshine State at the North Florida Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, March 4-5.
UAB will then co-host the Bama Beach Bash with South Alabama in Gulf Shores, Ala. The three-day tournament is slated for March 22-24.
The final tune-up for the C-USA Championship comes at the Memphis Women's Intercollegiate April 1-2, before heading to Fort Myers, Fla., for the league championship tournament in mid-April at the Verandah Club, April 15-17.
NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 6-8 at four sites which are to be determined, while the NCAA National Championship Tournament will take place May 17-22 in Fayetteville, Ark.
