Toe Named to Valley Baseball League Showcase Team

STRASBURG, Va. – Junior right-handed pitcher Sylvester Toe has been named to the Valley Baseball League Southern Collegiate Showcase Team, the league office announced.
The showcase, set for July 16-17 at Wingate University in Charlotte, N.C., features the best players from the Valley League, Southern Collegiate League, Sunbelt League, Florida Collegiate League and the Cal Ripken League. These leagues allow players to play in front of scouts every game throughout the summer.
"It's a tremendous honor and privilege to be selected for the Valley Baseball League Showcase Team," Toe said. "I would like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for giving me the ability to play this beautiful game that I love. Without Him, none of this is possible. I would also like to thank my family for always supporting me and encouraging me and my career up to this point."
Toe, a member of the Strasburg Express with UAB teammates Colton Schultz and Jim Jeffries, has made five appearances this summer. He has allowed just four hits while collecting seven strikeouts and a save.
"I am truly excited to play against some of the top collegiate players in the country and in front of MLB scouts," Toe said. "This is an opportunity I have waited my whole life for and, God willing, I will take full advantage of it."
As a sophomore for the Blazers, Toe carried the lowest ERA among UAB relievers with a 1.80 mark over 15.0 innings in 15 appearances. He was one of only two pitchers to not allow a run in league play and tallied eight hitless outings on the season.
Toe becomes the second Blazer to be named to the all-star team in their respective summer league as Zack Davis was selected to the Ban Johnson League All-Star Game and will play at Kaufman Stadium on July 9.
