BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB head track and field coach Kurt Thomas officially announced the hiring of Jordon Andreassen as an assistant coach with the Blazers on Friday.
Andreassen comes to UAB after spending the past five seasons at Graceland University, including her final season as the head coach. While there, she coached over 80 Heart of America Athletic Conference point scorers, six conference champions and two All-American Indoor and Outdoor athletes.
"I couldn't be more excited to welcome Jordon to our team and university," Thomas said. "She checks all the boxes in what we are looking for in an assistant coach. She's coached every event and has competed at a high level in college at Iowa State. She's been a head coach, so she's experienced in dealing with everything in our profession and is highly organized and shares the same philosophies with our program. We want to give our student athletes the best opportunity to succeed and Jordon gives us that."
As a student-athlete at Iowa State, Andreassen competed in the heptathlon and was a four-time All-Big 12 Conference performer, lettering eight times for the Cyclones. She ranks third all-time in the pentathlon and heptathlon on Iowa State's All-Time Performance List.
After college, she worked as a private coach in Ames, Iowa and Nevada, Iowa, training middle and high school athletes before becoming an assistant coach at Graceland University.
"I am very excited to join the UAB track and field family and work with Coach Thomas and Coach Esche," Andreassen said. "I cannot wait to begin working with the team and preparing them for the success we will have this upcoming season."
Andreassen graduated from Iowa State in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts sciences and earned her Master of Science in sport management in 2017.
